Accessibility at Right To Food
Right To Food believes in a country where the right to food is realized for all, without exception. That means accessibility is fundamental to how we work.
We want everyone to feel welcome and respected, and to be able to participate in our programs, services, spaces, communications, and community activities. We provide services in ways that respect people’s dignity, independence, privacy, autonomy, individual needs, full participation, and equal opportunity.
Right To Food is committed to identifying, removing, and preventing accessibility barriers, and to meeting applicable accessibility and human rights obligations in the jurisdictions where we operate. This includes our obligations under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, and its accessibility standards, and the Ontario Human Rights Code.
How we support accessibility
We are committed to making our website, programs, services, events, communications, and spaces accessible to people of all abilities. We can provide accommodations and accessibility supports in different ways, depending on individual needs. This may include:
- providing accessible formats and communication supports, such as large print, plain-text or digital documents, transcripts, audio recordings, or other supports where available and appropriate
- supporting people to use assistive devices, technology, or other accessibility tools
- finding alternative ways for people to access programs, services, meetings, events, and information
- adjusting our practices or services to respond to accessibility needs
- welcoming support persons who accompany people with disabilities
- welcoming service animals in areas open to the public, except where excluded by law. Where a service animal is excluded by law, we will work with the person to find another way to access our programs, services, or spaces.
Website accessibility
Wherever possible, we will align our website with the principles of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.
Service disruptions
If an accessible service, facility, or feature is temporarily unavailable, we will provide notice as soon as possible. The notice will include the reason for the disruption, the expected duration where known, and any available alternatives.
Requesting accessible formats or communication supports
Right To Food will consult with anyone requesting documents, information, accessible formats, or communication supports to understand their accessibility needs and determine the most appropriate format or support. We are committed to working collaboratively with individuals to ensure information is provided in a way that respects dignity, independence, privacy, autonomy, inclusion, and equal opportunity. We will provide accessible formats and communication supports at no cost to the person making the request.
