Líl̓wat Community Food Centre

Rooted in culture, nourished by community
Líl̓wat Community Food Centre (CFC) is part of the Líl̓wat Nation in Mount Currie, British Columbia. Guided by the Nation’s values of Nt̓ákmen (“Our Way”), the CFC reflects its community’s deep connection to land, language, and traditional knowledge.
The CFC supports community wellness and food security through shared meals, an affordable market, a community garden, and food preservation workshops that encourage learning and connection across generations.
The Centre also collaborates closely with Qwal̓ímak Nlep̓cálten Farm (“Mosquito Garden”)—a Nation-run market garden whose produce is used in community meals and the local affordable market. The farm’s name, gifted by Elders, reflects the Nation’s commitment to cultural continuity and land stewardship.
Beyond food, the Líl̓wat CFC works closely with other Nation services to support holistic wellbeing across generations. Programs rooted in Ucwalmícwts language, traditional crafts, drumming, and cultural teachings help preserve identity and foster connection.
At its heart, the Líl̓wat CFC’s work advances food sovereignty—reclaiming the community’s ability to grow, harvest, and share food on its own terms. Through its partnership with Right To Food, the Centre receives operational support to extend and strengthen programming, increase food access, and continue nurturing a thriving, self-determined community where everyone is fed—body, heart, and spirit.
