Natoaganeg Community Food Centre

“I’ve learned how to cook healthier meals, tried and loved lots of new foods, and been given opportunities to better connect with my community.”

Food plays a role in reconciliation

The Natoaganeg Community Food Centre took root after community members in Eel Ground First Nation, a Mi’kmaq First Nation, came together to talk about how to address the serious issue of food insecurity. With support from the Chief, Council, and community, and significant funding from Canadian Feed the Children, they created a safe space in 2016 to share, cook, and learn.

Right To Food partners with Natoaganeg Community Food Centre to provide core funding and programming support as it adapts the Community Food Centre model to meet the unique needs of the First Nation. Natoaganeg Community Food Centre offers empowering programs focused on increasing food access, food skills, Indigenous knowledge, and connection to the land.
