The Milton Parc Food Bank began during the COVID-19 pandemic to combat rising food insecurity in and around our neighborhood, and has since continued to serve our community. Our mission is twofold: not only do we provide the community with accessible food resources, but we also engage our community and fight loneliness and isolation by building valuable community spaces. The Food Bank is run by local community members and has developed into a tightly-knit family over the past several years. In fact, some of our core volunteers began as recipients of our services who have now taken on leading roles in our organization. We aim to address the needs of our community from within, and on a local scale. We believe that a food bank is about more than just food: it is also about reducing isolation and loneliness, increasing community collaboration, addressing our own needs, and providing a warm, humane, and dignified space where people feel seen and cared for – in sum, a lasting positive change in our neighborhood.
