The Canadian Black Farmers Association is a national organization supporting and advocating for Black, African, and Caribbean farmers and growers across Canada. Our work focuses on increasing access to land, training, mentorship, and culturally relevant farming knowledge, while creating real pathways into agriculture for communities that have been historically excluded. We help new and emerging farmers learn how to grow culturally preferred crops, build farm businesses, and connect with markets, and we support established farmers with resources, networks, and advocacy. We operate farm sites, greenhouses, and hands on training in BC and we are establishing another hub in Ontario. We work closely with community partners, agricultural institutions, and government to address systemic gaps that impact our communities. Our work has led to major breakthroughs, including growing culturally important crops like cassava and African yams in Canada for the first time, expanding food security programs, and helping more people see agriculture as a viable future. The impact of our work is already visible, we are increasing access to healthy cultural foods, creating economic opportunities, strengthening community leadership, and building a new generation of Black farmers who are shaping food sovereignty, sustainability, and long term prosperity for our communities across Canada.
