The Outland Youth Employment Program (OYEP), part of Dexterra Community Initiatives, delivers national programming focused on advancing equity and opportunity for Indigenous youth. For over 25 years, OYEP has provided land-based education, paid employment, and training that support academic achievement and career pathways in natural resource sectors. Our six-week summer programs and year-round supports combine practical work experience, high school credits, and life skills development. OYEP emphasizes cultural connection, leadership, and community building, working in partnership with Indigenous communities, industry, government and educational institutions to ensure programming reflects local priorities. Food is integral to our approach: camps provide culturally relevant meals and culinary training, embedding healthy food principles and fostering community. OYEP operates across Canada with over 150 partners and is guided by values of integrity, collaboration, and sustainability. Since 2000, through OYEP we have employed over 1000 Indigenous youth from 200+ Indigenous communities. Our goal is to create inclusive spaces where Indigenous youth gain skills, confidence, and opportunities for long-term success.
