Feed Nova Scotia is a registered charity that has been in operation for over 40 years, with a focus on supporting community efforts to address food insecurity. The organization is Food Banks Canada’s designated umbrella organization in Nova Scotia and currently supplies almost 140 food banks, meal programs and shelters across the province. In recent years, the organization has evolved towards new ways of working. In 2022, a new team was established with a focus on innovation and learning. In 2023, the Board developed a new vision and mission for the organization that focuses on food sovereignty, food justice and systemic change. Our values are innovation, equity, collaboration and accountability. Over the past two years, and in alignment with our shift in mandate, we’ve established a First Voice Advisory, built a grant stream to support new and emerging community-led work, are working in partnership with JustFOOD and the Island Food Network, two key regional networks in the province committed to advancing just access to food. We have also developed (and are about to launch) a new advocacy framework, with a focus on income, food access and food sovereignty.
