Gordon Neighbourhood House began in 1942 as a welcoming space for neighbours in Vancouver’s Downtown-West End to come together and create positive change. Neighbourhood houses are inclusive community hubs that foster connection, support, and empowerment. Today, we collaborate with local residents, businesses, and organizations to offer a wide range of programs, services, and initiatives that reflect the needs and dreams of our neighbourhood. From childcare to seniors’ programs, we walk alongside our community through every chapter of life, strengthening connections and building a brighter future together. When it comes to food insecurity, we are focused on addressing its root causes at the source – through advocacy and policy change – while also responding to community members’ emergency food needs, promoting active engagement in our food systems, and building connection through shared meals. Our goal is to shift the approach to this systemic challenge from charity to rights-based, structural solutions. We are proud to partner with Right To Food through coordinating the BC Regional Advocacy Network, contributing to a growing, organized movement across Canada that is calling for bold public policies, to ensure everyone has the income and supports they need not only to get by, but to thrive.
